These are sick, Im a big fan of Bad Brains but I havent liked many of their other collaboration products with Vans. These are so damn clean though and the attention to detail with the simple Red/Yellow/Green outsole piping and different lace choices make them even better!

Album of the Week.

My choice for this week's album is by Estelle and is called Shine. I'm not that big of an R&B fan but after hearing American Boy when it first came out, I knew I had to at least give this album a chance. After looking at some of the other guest appearences on the album (such as Kardinal Offishal, John Legend and Cee-Lo of Gnarles Barkely) and giving the album a listen, I realized just how good this was. Its certainly not a club-banging album (other then American Boy) but there are very few R&B albums that are. Its basically just a good mix of Reggae, Soul, R&B and a hint of hip-hop added to the mix for good measure. Worth the listen!

P.S. she does production as well as songwriting, impressive.

Just heard on Alice Cooper's radio show that Run DMC is going to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this spring. Its too bad it takes 25 years after your first album until you can be eligible to be inducted, they should have gotten in a long time ago.

"I'm a rap dude, I'm an MC from Hollis [a New York neighbourhood], just rockin' the mic, and to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, with the Beatles, and [Bob] Dylan, and the rock 'n' roll gods? It's ridiculous! Ridiculous in a good way," Darryl (DMC) McDaniels said in an interview Wednesday.

There has been a lot of stuff in the fashion world that has been catching my eye recently and I thought I would put a couple things on the blog that I really like (most of which are too pricey for my very shallow pockets but I can always dream big). In my opinion, the streetwear/urban scene has been very much at a standstill for the past year or two and now it is moving into a very in-between stage. Urban/streetwear is mixing with high-fashion and there is a huge demand for products that demonstrate exceptional detail and build quality as well as a concious effort by the producer to make the garment different without simply plastering a brand name on the front of a t-shirt. So that brings me to one of the first things that caught my attention this morning, eYe by Junya Watanabe and Comme Des Garcons. The japanese brands are famous for their attention to build quality and design and this stuff definately shows it. Too bad its not only hard/impossible to find a local retailer, I'm sure the price tags are way beyond my budget.

Next up on my list is a pair of moccasins created by a UK-based brand by the name of Oi Polloi. Most of the time I wont even look twice at a moccasin, and I have even gone so far as to mention to people how much I dislike them, but this pair caught my eye the other day and I liked them so much I have even considered purchasing myself a pair despite the $186 price tag. These things are constructed in the USA, and use swiss leathers that have been tanned in a family owned English tannery. You cant beat a shoe with history.

And my last addition for tonight is the Clarks Desert boot. I have been wearing mine since the fall and you cant beat the build quality and pure comfort of these things. Id take them over a sneaker any day and that was before I knew Steve McQueen wore them way back.With some character:

Well its been a while since I have posted an album of the week so I thought I would share with you guys one of the albums I have been listening to a lot recently. Its done by Pete Townshend of The Who and was released back in 1972. It was his first venture into a solo career and features a very folk/artistic sound that was a far cry from the heavy rock sound of The Who at the time. This album really demonstrates Townshend's natural ability to create music that is pure genious, showing that he is capable of creating innovative sounds simply by the way he chooses to compose them. This is definately a record you should be listening to if you are a fan of any 60's-70's era rock and/or folk.

Alright, well its been too long since I have posted anything on here but I finally got a few minutes today to throw up one picture for ya. Id like to welcome DXM's first sponsored BMX'er, Andrew Muir. At only 19 (still a year older than me haha) he has some serious skill and has got major potential to go a long way in the BMX business. He rides almost every weekend and I really admire his commitment to improving his skill all the time. Wool and Thread.

Last night I went to a little promo party held at one of DXM's reatilers, Envoke Clothing in Dundas. The event was held for a buddy of Nick (who is the owner of Envoke) and was pretty much just a way to check out all the hand crafted headwear and get some exposure for the serious skill he has to offer. All the hats were made of premium goods and were all constructed by hand. Though the pieces were an artform of their own, they were designed with functionality in mind and are 100% wearable and definately functional. My favorite was the fisherman's cap made of off-white wool and seamed straight down the middle (pictured far left) and the grey wool baseball cap lined with quilted plaid silk and detailed with a denim brim (middle right). Once I find out if the company has a website Ill be sure to post it up so anyone interested can check the pieces out in more detail. Speaking of websites, keep an eye out for a post of Envoke's upcoming online webstore which is going to have everything from WESC to Lifetime Collective to Obey and of course Deus Ex Machina! Album of the Week.

Well first off, sorry for the lack of updates dudes, my exam schedule was hectic the past week but now I am working full time for a month so the blog will stay well updated! Anyway, here is my pick for album of the week and its by the band The Who. Its called Who Are You and I am sure that anyone who has ever watched a television has heard one song from this album in the opening credits of CSI. Aside from catching some newfound fame with the younger generation thanks to the song's appearence on the show, this is one of the best albums I have ever listened to and the combination of Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend really made The Who what they are. Even though this album was made in 1978, it sure as hell doesnt show its age and if the only song you have heard from it is Who Are You make sure you get out and buy it. (Or download it at least if you are poor!)

Second pic;The Who-Who Are You, Blue Oyster Cult-Some Enchanted Evening, Steely Dan-The Royal Scam. Third pic; Stevie Ray Vaughan-Live Alive. Its a toss-up between 36 Chambers and Live Alive as my favorite purchases cause they are both amazing albums and you cant really compare either of them.

Here's a couple pics from a trip I took to Toronto a few weekends ago with Mark (Deus' other half). Their from an alley about 2 blocks long between Queen and Richmond. The art back there is awsome and it changes pretty much every time you go down there. As far as I know the city does a bit of painting every so often so that new works can be done all the time. Pretty sick! We got a couple panoramics as well which will be posted in a couple days.

Also, dont forget about the Design Hope event this Friday starting at 7!

Design Hope is a local (Hamilton area) organization created to help raise funds for the local churches who feed and shelter the homeless throughout the winter months. My grandmother is a huge contributor of her time and money to this organization as well as the program it supports, which is called Out of the Cold, and I wanted to throw this up on the blog to see if I can get any of the local young generation to come out and show some support. There will be an Art and Music Event held at 270 Sherman St. N on Friday December 5 at 7pm which is DH's annual fund raiser. Parking is free and there is a $10 cover (or what you can) as well as an art auction, benefit cd's for sale and raffle tickets for the donated art. Using three different NF shells, the Versa Air Jacket, Scoop Jacket, and Hyvent Raintex Jacket, atmos has created some very 80's-inspired styles. Takashi Murakami x Louis Vuitton.

Just completed yesterday, this project was done as a collaborative project between Japanese artist/designer Takashi Murakami and luxury goods brand Louis Vuitton. The 5th Ave. LV store in NY has been wrapped with a special version of the brand's signature mongram print which has been personalized by Murakami. As an added bonus, the store's interior has also been slightly modified with a new display for bags and other goods. The wrap will stay up throughout the holiday season.

Here's a couple photos of an exhibition currently being put on by the NY artist Kaws and the Gering & Lopez Gallery. Know for his street and grafitti influenced art as well as his highly populary vinyl collectibles, the exhibition displays some of his numerous styles and trademark pieces. The event will be running until the 23rd of December at the gallery.
